The Dixon Police Department in conjunction with the Lee County Sheriff’s Department are currently investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred in the 1100 Block of Franklin Grove Road on Thursday, May 26th at 10:42 a.m. The Dixon City Fire Department, the Dixon Rural Fire Department, and Advance EMS all responded to the scene as well.
From the initial investigation, Terry Strege (a 65-year old male from Ashton) was driving a 2002 Toyota sedan eastbound on Franklin Grove Road. The vehicle left the roadway on the southside and struck a tree. Terry Strege along with his 87-year old father James Strege (also of Ashton) had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Both subjects were transported to KSB Hospital. Terry Strege was later pronounced deceased at KSB Hospital. James Strege was treated and then airlifted to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford where he is listed in critical condition.
Due to the nature of the injuries, the roadway at the location was closed to traffic for a period of time. An accident reconstructionist from the department was contacted to investigate the incident. An autopsy of Terry Strege will be conducted at a later date.
