On Tuesday, August 9th, at approximately 10:13am Rock Falls Police responded to a residence in the 900 block of West 5th Street in Rock Falls after a caller reported a shooting with one person injured. When officers arrived, they located Silas Hammelman, 30, of Sterling injured by multiple gunshots.
Hammelman was transported to CGH Medical Center and later transferred to a hospital in Rockford for additional treatment and has since been released. Rock Falls Police initially detained one male at the scene for questioning who was cooperative and was later released.
Investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting continued.
On Wednesday, September 28th, Rock Falls Police obtained an arrest warrant for Silas Hammelman for one count of Home Invasion, a class X felony, and one count of Criminal Trespass to a Residence, a class 4 felony, with a bond of $100,000.
On September 29th, Hammelman turned himself in to Rock Falls Police. Hammelman posted the required $10,000 (10%) bond on the warrant and was released with a future court date.
All individuals arrested are to be considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
