Odell will be closed on Saturday, September 17th for the Harvest Hammer and the 25th Anniversary of Morrison’s Paint the Town. We hope many of you come out to enjoy the wonderful art and music in Morrison!
NEW MATERIALS
Find all the newest titles here by scrolling to the bottom of the Odell website. Unfortunately, due to a malware attack on Baker & Taylor, Odell’s primary book distributor, there may be significant delays with the September book order. Baker & Taylor is working to remedy the issues and we thank you for your patience!
A new “Back 2 School” episode of Between the Stacks is slated to drop mid-September. Until then, take a listen to our August episode featuring Sam Mills’ winning fantasy short story “A Clear Path.” Sam, a Morrison 6th grader, was the winner of “Between the Stacks” inaugural Short Story Contest in the 10-14 age bracket. You can find our podcast on Anchor, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and more. Listen here.
FREE LIBRARY CARDS FOR KIDS!
Thanks to a recent change in Illinois legislation and approval by the Odell Public Library Board, we are able to offer library cards at no charge to any child under the age of 18! This wonderful change makes the library more accessible, especially for our users who live outside the city limits. Rural users over age 18 may still purchase a library card for their household at an annual rate of $55.
PLAY KITCHEN & PUPPET THEATER
Our play kitchen has seen so much traffic over the last month! Come explore, play, and learn with your young one at Odell! Please note that a responsible parent/caregiver must remain in the children’s area during play. Toys are sanitized nightly. We have enjoyed seeing many families back in the library!
A representative from the Aging and Disabled resource Center will be at Odell the 2nd Wednesday of every month. Let them help you or your loved ones with Benefit Access (license sticker discounts), Medicare Part D Comparisons/Enrollment, Social Security Extra Help, COVID vaccine appointments, Senior Homestead Exemptions, and much more.
ROOFING UPDATE
The roof is still very nearly finished. Unfortunately, more metal needed to be ordered to complete the project, estimated to arrive mid-October. We are eagerly awaiting the end of this much needed upgrade!
Passes are currently available for the Putnam Museum & Niabi Zoo. Passes are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and include admission and parking. Call us at 815-772-7323 or stop in to reserve a pass.
Explore More Illinois is a free service provided by your library that provides instant online access to free and discounted tickets to museums, science centers, sporting events, zoos, park districts, theatres, and other fun and local cultural venues. Log in with your library card barcode and PIN and browse for passes by date or attractions. Make your reservation and print or download your pass shortly before your visit.
COMING SOON TO ODELL…
LEGO CLUB – BEGINS OCTOBER 1ST
Calling all builders! LEGO Club is finally back after an extended COVID-19-induced hiatus! Odell’s building club is open to all ages and abilities and meets the first Saturday of the month from 10:30am-noon in the program room. This is a free, drop-in program. Pop in to build or stay the whole time! A building challenge/theme will be provided, but builders may always choose to free-build instead. We supply the bricks, you supply the creativity! Duplo and Mega Block are available for our youngest builders. Our theme for October is “CELEBRATION” because we are SO EXCITED to restart this fabulous group!
STORYTIME – BEGINS OCTOBER 6TH
After 2 long years of virtual storytime, Odell is ready to see those beautiful faces again! Kids and caregivers are invited to join us each Thursday evening at 7:00 pm in the children’s area for stories, songs, and rhymes with Miss Katie. Storytime is a fantastic way to introduce kids to the library, make friends, practice social skills, and so much more! Though storytime is designed with preschoolers in mind, all ages are welcome to attend this free, drop-in program.
Save the Date: Saturday, November 5th Odell Program Room
Come support the Odell Public Library Friends by stocking up on gently-used books and fresh-baked treats! Due to construction and space limitations, this year’s sale will be much smaller, but still feature excellent selections of hardcover and paperback books for all ages!
