On January 29th 2018 the Building Committee purchased sawzall blades which officially kicked off The American Legion Post 328 in Morrison IL remodel project. Forward to Memorial Day 2022 with a LOT of pauses in the middle due to ice storms, illness, COVID-19, fire, smoke damage, a myriad of other hiccups and the Post finally made it to the Grand Reopening.
Over two hundred visitors enjoyed seeing an up to date Legion Post with all of the amenities. While there they were treated to pork chop sandwiches, sides and beverages. Morrison Department of Fun was involved by hosting a block party to celebrate the grand opening and street renovation completion.
The photograph of the Ribbon Cutting had Morrison Chamber of Commerce members and Legion Members alike holding the ribbon.
Left to right on the ribbon or immediately behind are: Myra Huizenga, Chamber Executive Director Faith Rumfelt, Past Commander Terry Jones, Tiffany Tipton, Legionnaires Barry Linder, Ken Petersen, cutting the ribbon were Sgt-at-Arms Jerry Brearton and Commander Larry Zuidema, Past Commander Dale Usterbowski (initiator of the project), Senior Vice Commander Dennis VanZuiden (skilled craftsman), Legionnaires Vern Schroeder and Bob Brands, Chamber Board of Directors President Kevin Schisler, Legionnaires EH Stralow and Bill Brackemyer.
In addition to having a nice up to date Post for our Legion meetings, the Post is available to rent for small venues.
