The new Sterling Dementia Caregiver Support Group will meet again, Thursday, July 14th at 3 p.m. at Morningside, 2705 Ave. E, Sterling. All area caregivers are welcome to attend and bring their loved one, who will take part in a separate activity at the facility.
The CGH Health Foundation is partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association, Morningside and the Whiteside County Senior Center in making the Sterling group available. Each month the group will meet on the 2nd Thursday. Contact leader Beth Sterk for more information at 815/622-9230. Registration is not required, but helps with planning the meetings.
The Foundation is devoting the coming year to our new Dementia Project. We are working on getting other support groups created in our area towns. Polo and Mt. Morris are already active and groups in Dixon, Prophetstown and Milledgeville are in the works.
Support groups create a safe, confidential, supportive environment or community and are a chance for participants to develop informal mutual support and social relationships. They also educate and inform participants about dementia and help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems.
