To recount initial report from Tuesday, August 9th: At approximately 10:13 am Rock Falls Police responded to 904 West 5th Street for reported shooting. When officers arrived, they located a 30-year-old male injured by multiple gunshots to his body and extremities.
The injured male was transported to CGH Medical Center in Sterling for treatment where he underwent surgery before being transferred to OSF St. Anthony in Rockford where he is in serious condition.
A handgun was recovered at the scene.
UPDATED INFORMATION FROM SHOOTING
An individual was detained initially, but no charges are presently pending. Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing. Officers from the Sterling Police Department and Illinois State Police along with deputies from the Whiteside County Sheriff’s office assisted Rock Falls Police at the scene.
Detectives from the Illinois State Police, Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office and Sterling Police Department are assisting with the investigation. Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services assisted in the documentation of the crime scene and collection of evidence.
